Helps individuals and families pay for the cost of heating their homes by providing a one-time benefit payment for each heating season. Household income must be below 150% FPL. Payment covers a portion of heating costs; not intended to cover the entire annual cost of heating a home. Assistance may also be available to help with non-heating electric costs. Other services offered include crisis assistance (available to those who have no heat, have received a disconnection notice, or are nearly out of fuel and do not have any way to pay for heating needs) and weatherization services.

Section 8 Rental Assistance
Program participants pay a portion of their rent, based on their income, and the Housing Authority pays the rest. (See pamphlet for details on requirements etc.)

Rental Repair Loans
Available to owners of rental properties in Chippewa County.

Home Purchase Programs
Funded by Chippewa County Housing Authority. Helps with down payment and/or closing cost, home repairs that count towards down payment, lease to purchase, as well as self-help.

Housing Rehabilitation Program
Assists low and moderate-income households with repairs to their homes. Repairs include plumbing, electrical, heating, insulation, roofing, among others

Self-Help Housing
Assists first time home buyers with building their own homes. A group of families (4-6) works together to build their own homes under the guidance of contractors

Lease to Purchase
Assists first time homebuyers in purchasing a home after they have rented it for one year.

Emergency Housing Assistance For Home Owners
Program helps homeowners being their delinquent property taxes current as well as helping homeowners who have fallen behind with mortgage payments.

Vision (Volunteer Improvement Service In Our Neighborhoods)
Assists low-income homeowners with small home repairs. Homeowner pays for materials and vision staff community volunteers to do the labor. Eligibility requirements in pamphlet as well as complete list of services.

Lifeline and Link-Up
– Lifeline reduces the basic monthly charge for one telephone line for income-eligible households.

Center for Independent Living New Freedom Transportation Program

Volunteer drivers can take people to medical appointments, counseling, meetings and limited shopping. A voucher program is available to provide short-term transportation options for people with disabilities. This service is available in 10 counties.

Chippewa County Veterans Van

Service Area: Chippewa County. Veterans Van provides free transportation for veterans to and from the V.A. Medical Center in Minneapolis for admittance and outpatient treatment. Van leaves from and returns to the Chippewa County Courthouse on even numbered days. Veterans must have their own transportation to the courthouse and must be ambulatory to use the service.
